The film «Site of Sites» from Oriol Estrada and Natalia Cabral, was chosen to participate at the official competition of IDFA, International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, the documentary cinema event considered the Cannes of non-fiction films.
«Site of Sites» chronicles the brief and genuine moments in the lives of workers, local vacationers and foreign tourists around the construction of an artificial beach in the Eastern part of the Dominican Republic; a fashion model, some sweepes, a couple of golfers, a maid, a gardener and a few foreign tourists, coexist in the same space, between bulldozers and power plants, separated by fences, noises and walls; a look into a corner of the world that suggests a certain state of the world.
The project, produced by Faula Films, was the winner of the DOCTV Latin America program open call for Dominican Republic, receiving support from the Dominican Film Commission DGCINE and channel 4RD, in collaboration with Aurora Dominicana and Aurora Color Post.
«Site of Sites» will compete in the medium length oficial competition with 14 other works directors from different parts of the world.
Founded in 1988 to stimulate the national and international documentary culture, IDFA has developed into the largest and most versatile documentary film festival in the world. Every year, the Festival presents over 250 international documentaries selected from a huge field. They select documentaries that are interesting from a stylistic point of view, or are particularly innovative, relevant to social issues and successfully manage to communicate with their audiences. Renowned directors such as Werner Herzog, Kazuo Hara, Robert Kramer, Michael Moore and Ulrich Seidl have all received special attention at IDFA in the past. The next edition of the festival will be held from 16 to 27 November 2016 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
